The cast are well crafted and fleshed out, making them easy to love and identify with. Without relying on stereotypes and rumors, the author shows the relationship between the starets and the Romanov family in an era characterized by historical complexities. The book is witty and funny, and often, the way Anastasia speaks will catch you by surprise.
There are lots of historical facts, and the author goes into the details of what happened to the Romanov&#;s.
This novel is unique to the others in that it tells the story both through Catherine's point of view, and Henry VIII's. She is then sent away to a different residence. As the only child to this couple, Mary enjoyed a blissful life, and everything she wanted was handed to her. Life for the young Princess was perfect until the arrival of her step-mother, Anne Boleyn.
Thanks to her father&#;s new wife, who was also known to be an evil witch, Mary&#;s life change for the worse, and it is heartbreaking what the girl had to endure at such a young age.
Mary&#;s evil step-mother is not only abusive, but she forces the young Princess to take care of her baby stepsister, Elizabeth.
To make matters worse, the stepsisters take over Mary&#;s rights, and her father seemed so enchanted to see anything wrong with this arrangement. The young Princess also came under fire for her faith, and it seems like she can never do anything right in her step-mother&#;s eyes. Through Mary&#;s POV, we also get to see the drama that characterized Henry VIII rule with his outrageous affairs.
Her father&#;s marriage to Anne Boleyn had such a negative effect on her life, and the consequences extend way after Mary&#;s childhood.
